Marvel is looking years ahead, horror is reopening some dangerous doors, and Doctor Who’s future remains a conversation rather than a settled plan. This 9 October briefing brings together the New York Comic Con announcements, new horror projects and the people hoping to shape what comes next.

The News That Matters
Marvel maps out Zodiac and its next animated adventures

- Event: New York Comic Con, 8 October 2026
- Platform: Disney+
Marvel has announced Zodiac, a spy thriller heading to Disney+ in 2028. Brad Winderbaum said filming would begin in the coming spring. It is a new addition to a television slate that is also making room for more animation.
Marvel Zombies will return through three two-part events: The Winter Soldier in 2027, The Fist of Khonshu in 2028 and The Last Guardian in 2029. Meanwhile, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season two has a 13 January premiere date, with Peter Parker’s black symbiote suit part of the new season. The announcements offer a timetable; how these stories connect is still something to discover.
Daredevil brings back the Defenders as VisionQuest reaches NYCC

- Daredevil: Born Again: Third and final season in 2027
- VisionQuest: Disney+ premiere announced for 14 October
Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter and Finn Jones appeared together at Marvel’s NYCC panel for Daredevil: Born Again. Mike Colter could not attend because of a scheduling conflict. The presentation offered an exclusive look at the third and final season, due in 2027.
VisionQuest supplied the panel’s immediate surprise: a screening of its first episode. Paul Bettany, James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica and Emily Hampshire joined showrunner Terry Matalas on stage. With the Disney+ premiere close, the audience will soon be able to judge Vision’s next chapter for itself.
Crossed offers its first age-restricted glimpse

- Director: Rob Jabbaz
- Cast: Devin Druid and Ash Santos
The first teaser for Crossed has arrived, introducing Rob Jabbaz’s adaptation of the Garth Ennis comic. Ennis wrote the screenplay, with Devin Druid and Ash Santos leading the cast. The story follows survivors trying to escape people driven to act on their worst impulses.
The teaser carries an uploader-requested age restriction. That fits the project’s extreme-horror territory; this is not an all-ages preview. A release date has yet to be announced.
The Beyond becomes the first film in a new remake partnership

- Original film: Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond, 1981
- Companies: Hangtime International Pictures and Severin Films
An English-language remake of The Beyond is in development through a partnership between Hangtime International Pictures and Severin Films. The companies have secured remake rights to Fulci’s horror classic and intend it to be the first of several genre projects.
The original follows a woman whose Louisiana hotel may conceal a gateway to hell. No director or cast was named in the announcement. For now, the interesting question is how a new film might preserve its disorienting atmosphere while finding a reason to revisit it.
Split Rock sets its sights on Christmas

- Writer-director: Ryan Glover
- Announced streaming date: 25 December on Shudder
Shudder has acquired Split Rock, Ryan Glover’s supernatural horror film shot on 16mm, with a Christmas Day streaming release announced. Clark Backo and Drew Ray Tanner lead the cast as geologists investigating an anomaly in remote badlands.
Their discovery awakens something ancient, turning the expedition into a struggle against escalating horrors. The combination of a rugged landscape and 16mm photography gives the film a distinctive starting point. Exact country-by-country availability remains to be confirmed.
The Last Temptation of Becky takes its fight to Poland

- Director: Jenn Wexler
- Cast: Lulu Wilson and Neil Patrick Harris
Lulu Wilson returns as Becky Hooper in The Last Temptation of Becky. Now working as a CIA field agent, Becky goes undercover at a Polish inn to investigate a family with a Nazi revival plan. Neil Patrick Harris plays Wilhelm Reuss, the man she has to stop.
Jenn Wexler directs the third film, taking the series into an espionage setting while keeping Becky at its centre. The official trailer below offers the first look at that shift.
Doctor Who looks back at its streaming talks—and ahead to new leadership

- Memoir: Russell T Davies’s The Queerest of Folk
- Writer: Juno Dawson
Russell T Davies has revealed that Doctor Who was pitched to Netflix and Amazon as well as Disney in 2022. In his memoir, he recalls expecting Netflix to be the likeliest destination before the Disney deal came together. These were past discussions, rather than news of a fresh streaming agreement.
Juno Dawson has separately spoken about her ambition to run the series. The writer of The Interstellar Song Contest says she has spent years considering what her version would be. It is an expression of interest, not an appointment: the next creative leadership has not been announced.
Movieversalfilm Takeaway
The nearest appointment is VisionQuest; Marvel’s other announcements stretch much further ahead. Horror’s developments range from a familiar title being rebuilt to a new geological nightmare, while Doctor Who’s next era is still taking shape. There is plenty to anticipate, but an announcement is only the beginning of the story.
