Tony Trailer: Dominic Sessa’s Young Bourdain Heads to Prime Video

Trailer Drop · 20 October 2026

Prime Video UK & Ireland has released the official trailer for Tony, Matt Johnson’s warm, scrappy biopic about the summer that made Anthony Bourdain. Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers) plays the 19-year-old future chef, writer and television host, who talks his way into a job in a chaotic Provincetown restaurant kitchen in 1975. After its UK cinema release in August, the A24 film arrives on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland on Monday 26 October 2026.

What the Trailer Shows

“See where it all began,” says Prime Video’s pitch for the trailer. It introduces Tony as a cocky aspiring writer who insists he is not a cook, then follows him to Provincetown on Cape Cod, where a rejected bid for a writing fellowship and an empty wallet push him into a dishwashing job at an unremarkable seafood restaurant. There he meets the kitchen’s chef, played by Antonio Banderas, a once-ambitious cook who becomes his unlikely mentor, and gets his first real taste of the noise, heat and camaraderie of a working kitchen.

Johnson, who made BlackBerry, directs from a screenplay he wrote with Matthew Miller, Todd Bartels and Lou Howe, drawing on stories from Bourdain’s 2000 memoir Kitchen Confidential. Emilia Jones (CODA) plays Nancy, the girl Tony followed to Provincetown, while Leo Woodall is Sal, the volatile kitchen worker who proves a bad influence. Stavros Halkias, Monica Raymund, Rich Sommer and Dagmara Domińczyk complete the ensemble.

Critics were kind when the film opened in US cinemas on 7 August, with Banderas’s chef singled out as a highlight. It has a 93 per cent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 75.
