What to Watch Tonight UK · Saturday 24 October 2026
It is the last Saturday night before Halloween, so tonight is pure horror. Sky Mix has a Sam Raimi double bill that starts at 9pm. Netflix has just added the Ouija film that even horror fans tend to skip, and they really should not. And for The X-Files, we have dug out the episode so disturbing that it was the first in the show’s history to carry a viewer warning.

Tonight’s three picks
NEW TONIGHT: Evil Dead II (1987) on Sky Mix at 9pm
- Channel: Sky Mix at 9pm, until 11pm with adverts
- Runtime: 1 hour 24 minutes
- Age rating: 15
- Director: Sam Raimi, with Bruce Campbell as Ash
- Straight after: Army of Darkness (1992, 15), Sky Mix at 11pm
- UK availability: On Sky Mix tonight, and streaming on NOW Cinema and Sky Go
Ash takes his girlfriend to a remote cabin in the woods, plays a tape of a professor reading from the Book of the Dead, and everything goes wrong very quickly. Raimi turned his low-budget shocker into a wild horror comedy, with a possessed hand, a laughing room and some of the most inventive camera work of the 1980s. Bruce Campbell gives one of the great physical performances. Stay up for Army of Darkness at 11pm and make it a proper Saturday double bill.
Perfect if you liked Shaun of the Dead, Drag Me to Hell or Braindead. The saga is still going, too: catch up on Evil Dead Burn.
HIDDEN GEM: Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016) on Netflix
- Service: Netflix, new to the UK service this week. Also on Prime Video and NOW Cinema
- Runtime: 1 hour 39 minutes
- Age rating: 15
- Director: Mike Flanagan, with Elizabeth Reaser, Lulu Wilson and Henry Thomas
- UK availability: Streaming now on Netflix, included with membership
Forget the 2014 original. This prequel is set in Los Angeles in 1967, where a widowed mother runs a fake séance business with her two daughters. She adds a Ouija board to the act, and her youngest starts talking to something that is not her father. Flanagan, who later made The Haunting of Hill House, builds real dread from a family story, and Lulu Wilson is genuinely frightening. Most people skipped it because of the title. Do not.
Perfect if you liked The Haunting of Hill House, The Conjuring or Hereditary. Flanagan’s new TV take on Stephen King is on Prime Video, and Carrie has just been renewed for a second season.
X-FILES CLASSIC: The X-Files — “Home” (1996)
- Service: Disney+. Also on Prime Video, and free with adverts on 5
- Episode: Season 4, episode 2
- Runtime: 44 minutes
- Age rating: 18 (series rating on UK streaming)
- Writers and director: Written by Glen Morgan and James Wong, directed by Kim Manners
- Why now: It first aired 30 years ago this month, and Ryan Coogler’s new X-Files series has been ordered
- UK availability: Streaming now on Disney+
A baby is found buried under a baseball field in Home, Pennsylvania, a sleepy town where nobody locks their doors. Mulder and Scully soon find themselves at the farmhouse of the Peacock brothers, and what they find there is the stuff of nightmares. It was the first X-Files episode to carry a viewer warning, and you will never hear Johnny Mathis singing “Wonderful! Wonderful!” in the same way again. Watch it with the lights on.
Perfect if you liked The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes or “The List”, our last X-Files pick. Find your next case in our X-Files watch guide.
Movieversalfilm Takeaway
Start early with “Home” on Disney+, then join Ash on Sky Mix at 9pm and stay for Army of Darkness at 11pm. Keep Ouija: Origin of Evil for Sunday night if you need to sleep, but do not let the title put you off.
Plan the week ahead with our UK Release Calendar.
