Blue Planet III Trailer: Attenborough Takes Us Deeper From 1 November

Trailer Drop · 21 October 2026

The BBC has released the global trailer for Blue Planet III, and with it a start date. Sir David Attenborough’s return to the oceans begins on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday 1 November 2026. The six-part series arrives 25 years after The Blue Planet first reached screens, and nine years after Blue Planet II turned a nation against single-use plastic.

What the Series Explores

Attenborough, now in his 100th year, narrates once more. The BBC says the series goes deeper into the oceans than ever before, using a new generation of camera technology, including splash drones, long-term remote underwater cameras and a “mini dome”, to film behaviour that was previously impossible to capture or has only recently been discovered. Each of the first five episodes visits one of the planet’s key underwater habitats: Tropical Seas, Open Ocean, Seasonal Seas, Polar Waters and The Deep. The sixth and final episode, Future Seas, looks at what needs to be done to protect them. Where Blue Planet II exposed the threats facing the oceans, this series also promises stories of adaptation, resilience, hope and recovery.

Hans Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers Music have written the score, and Zimmer joined BRIT Award winner JADE and Thom Lukas to write an original song for the launch, “Into The Deep (Seas Cry)”. BBC Studios held the global premiere in London on 6 October, when it took over the Piccadilly Lights and released an extended first-look trailer. This new global trailer is a shorter cut that confirms the UK start date.

The series is made by the BBC Studios Natural History Unit, in partnership with The Open University, and co-produced with BBC America, ZDF and France Télévisions in association with Skai Greece. Elizabeth White is executive producer, with Lara Bickerton and James Brickell as series producers. American viewers will have to wait a little longer: it premieres on AMC+ and BBC America on 23 January 2027.
