HBO Max has released the trailer for season two of City of God: The Fight Rages On, the HBO Original series from Brazil that continues the story of the acclaimed 2002 film City of God. The six-episode season premieres on Sunday 8 November and will stream globally on HBO Max.

What Happens in Season 2
“The game has changed,” HBO Max says. “Now, the battle for power unfolds both inside and outside the City of God.” Following the death of drug lord Curió, a violent struggle for control of the territory erupts. Newly elected councilwoman Berenice (Roberta Rodrigues) takes on political corruption and the growing influence of the militia, while Jerusa (Andréia Horta), a lawyer haunted by her past, seeks revenge on those who destroyed her family. Leka (Luellem de Castro) turns to culture, funk music and dance parties to inspire unity, resistance and hope among local residents.
The season also marks the return of Matheus Nachtergaele as Cenoura, the role he originated in the 2002 film. Released from prison, Cenoura comes back to the community he once left behind. HBO says the new season examines escalating violence, political corruption and community resistance, and the first episode had its world premiere at the 28th Rio Film Festival on 9 October.
