TOHO has released Official Trailer 2 for Godzilla Minus Zero, Takashi Yamazaki’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One. First shown at the film’s New York Comic Con panel, the trailer is now online worldwide, and UK audiences get IMAX early screenings from Tuesday 3 November, followed by a nationwide cinema release on Friday 6 November through Anime Limited.

What the Trailer Shows

The trailer opens on an ominous verdict from Dr. Ogata, played by Jun Kunimura: “I can say for certain. That patient… she had no business surviving.” From there it tips into chaos, as humanity is driven into a corner with no choice but to flee, young Akiko offers a small prayer amid the panic, and Godzilla unleashes a pale blue heat ray. The closing line leaves no room for doubt: “There is no third time. Everything ends here.”

The official synopsis picks up two years after Minus One. War reduced Japan to zero and Godzilla plunged it into minus; the country has struggled back towards ordinary life, but just as a hard-won peace takes hold, a new threat strikes. The story is set in 1949, with Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe returning as former pilot Kōichi and Noriko, who are raising their adopted daughter Akiko.

Yamazaki again writes, directs and supervises the visual effects, and TOHO says this is the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX. Minus One became Anime Limited’s highest-grossing release, taking more than £2.6 million at the UK and Irish box office.
