Trailer Drop · 23 October 2026
Amazon MGM Studios has released the second official trailer for I Play Rocky, Peter Farrelly’s drama about how an unknown Sylvester Stallone fought to play the lead in his own script for Rocky. The film was the surprise screening at this year’s BFI London Film Festival and reaches UK and Irish cinemas in November through Entertainment Film Distributors.
The True Story Behind the Underdog
Amazon MGM Studios calls it “the ultimate underdog story behind the ultimate underdog movie”. Told “no” at every turn, Stallone bets everything on himself, holding out to play Rocky Balboa against seemingly impossible odds, even as studios circle his screenplay without him attached. The new trailer leans into that stand-off, the money on the table and the people who backed him.
Anthony Ippolito plays Stallone, with AnnaSophia Robb, Toby Kebbell, P.J. Byrne, Jay Duplass and Kiki Seto, featuring Matt Dillon, with Stephan James and Tracy Letts. Peter Farrelly, the Academy Award winner behind Green Book, directs from a script by Peter Gamble. The producers are Toby Emmerich, Christian Baha, Peter Farrelly, Paul Currie and Michele Weiss.
