The Lost Boys: back for the Halloween run again

Schumacher’s 1987 horror comedy stars Jason Patric, Corey Haim and Dianne Wiest, with Kiefer Sutherland. The BBFC sums it up as the story of a mother and her two sons who move to a new town and find it is inhabited by vampires.

Its last UK cinema return was Park Circus’s 35th-anniversary re-release on Friday 14 October 2022, which the BBFC classified on 12 October 2022 at 97 minutes 18 seconds. The 2027 date follows the same pattern, landing just over two weeks before Halloween.

Predator: 40 years of the hunt

McTiernan’s film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers. The BBFC describes it as a 1987 action adventure in which a group of soldiers are stalked by a mysterious creature while on a jungle mission. It opened in the US on 12 June 1987, and the BFI gives its original UK release date as 1 January 1988.

Park Circus last brought it back for its 30th anniversary, with a UK re-release on 9 November 2017. The franchise has carried on since. Read our Predator: Badlands review.

Fans of Weathers don’t have to wait until 2027 to see him on the big screen. Park Circus’s 50th-anniversary 4K restoration of Rocky, in which he plays Apollo Creed, opens on Friday 6 November, at 100+ locations. It is in our Weekly Cinema Pack.

A 1987 class reunion

Our count of the FDA schedule finds 15 Park Circus anniversary re-releases listed for 2027 so far, and five of them are 1987 films marking 40 years: Moonstruck (4K restoration, 5 February), Broadcast News (2 July), Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket (17 September), The Lost Boys (15 October) and Predator (5 November).

David Fincher’s Zodiac, with Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr, sits between the two genre titles on 22 October. It first opened in UK cinemas on 18 May 2007.

Movieversalfilm Takeaway

Autumn 2027 is shaping up as a big one for anyone who grew up on 1980s genre cinema. Vampires on the boardwalk in mid-October, the Zodiac case a week later, and Schwarzenegger in the jungle on Bonfire Night is quite a run. It is a long way off, and dates can still move, but these are the first UK dates we have seen for either anniversary.
