Trailer Drop · 60th Anniversary Re-Release Trailer · 4 November 2026
Ingmar Bergman’s Persona is going back on the big screen. The BFI has released a new trailer for the film’s 60th anniversary re-release, and it opens in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Friday 11 December 2026. It is also available to stream on BFI Player.

An Actress, a Nurse and a Cottage on Fårö
Liv Ullmann plays Elisabet, a celebrated stage actress who suddenly falls silent during a performance of Electra. Bibi Andersson is Alma, the chatty young nurse sent with her to a remote seaside cottage on the island of Fårö. As the summer goes on, the line between the two women starts to dissolve, and Bergman turns that into some of the most startling imagery of the 1960s.
Shot in stark black and white by Sven Nykvist, the 1966 film has shaped decades of cinema since, from David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive to the National Theatre’s recent Electra/Persona with Cate Blanchett, who calls it “so radical… pushing the limits of cinema”. The trailer leans into that unease: faces, silence and a sense that something is coming apart.
It runs 83 minutes, is rated 15 and plays in Swedish with English subtitles. BFI Southbank in London has screenings from opening day through the Christmas holidays. It is the latest classic heading back to UK screens this winter, after It’s a Wonderful Life in 4K and The Man Who Fell to Earth.
