Morning News · Saturday 31 October 2026, Halloween
Cal Kestis isn’t going anywhere: Disney says more stories for the hero of the Star Wars Jedi games are on the way, as the third game edges towards a reveal. Also this Halloween morning: a teenage James Bond arrives in a new full-cast audio drama, Dan Stevens on the violence and satire of Prime Video’s RoboCop, John Cho joins the road-trip horror Bad Influence, Holt McCallany hunts a ritual killer in Paradise Disturbed, an episode count for My Adventures with Green Lantern, a big-screen snub for Netflix’s Cliff Booth in America, and Kenneth Branagh as A24’s goblin.

The News That Matters
Disney promises more Cal Kestis stories as Star Wars Jedi 3 nears a reveal
- What happened: Star Wars Jedi 3, Respawn’s final chapter in the Cal Kestis trilogy, still has no reveal, trailer or release window, but Disney says its hero is here to stay. “Never say never. We’ve got his lightsaber in the park. We’ve got more Cal stories coming,” a Disney representative told GameRant
- How close is it?: Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier wrote on Bluesky that the game is “far in development” and “should be officially announced soon”, well ahead of the Respawn and DICE shooter he has identified as Battlefront III. Neither EA nor Lucasfilm has announced a date
- Still on the slate: EA named the next Jedi game as one of the major launches it is sticking with after its recent restructuring
- UK availability: No release date yet; UK date not yet confirmed
Fallen Order and Survivor gave Lucasfilm one of its most satisfying new heroes of the last decade, and Cal’s lightsaber sitting in a Disney park says plenty about how the studio sees him. A proper reveal can’t come soon enough. For the rest of this week’s galaxy news, see our Star Wars News.
A teenage James Bond goes to Eton in Big Finish’s Young Bond: SilverFin
- What happened: Big Finish and Ian Fleming Publications have released Young Bond: SilverFin, a full-cast audio drama of Charlie Higson’s novel, with Isaac Rouse as the 13-year-old James Bond
- The story: Bond starts at Eton, makes an enemy on his first day and heads to Scotland, where Lord Randolph Hellebore is conducting sinister experiments at his castle by Loch Silverfin
- Who’s in it: Charlotte McBurney, Miriam Margolyes, Tim McInnerny, Miranda Raison, Paterson Joseph, William Hope, Timothy Bentinck and Higson himself. Barnaby Edwards adapts and directs, with music by Joe Kraemer
- The format: 16 half-hour episodes, about eight hours in all, across two box sets
- UK availability: Out now from Big Finish and the Ian Fleming shop, £24.99 per box set to download or £35.99 with the collector’s edition CD. The first episode is free on the Big Finish website
While Amazon MGM Studios, producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman and director Denis Villeneuve work towards naming the next screen 007, there is still no official announcement, so the only new Bond you can meet this weekend is a schoolboy. Higson’s books were a clever way into the character, and Big Finish, which knows a thing or two about British icons, is a natural home for them. We looked at why Bond endures in The Two Pillars of British Entertainment.
Dan Stevens promises violence and satire in Prime Video’s RoboCop series

- What he said: Dan Stevens, who plays the title role, told Entertainment Weekly that the 1987 film’s mix of “extreme violence and satire” is what he loves most about it, and that today’s police industrial complex makes it “such a ripe paradigm” for satire
- The reaction: He found out the casting had been announced while filming Dexter, and said he had “never had so many texts from guys over 35 in one day”
- Who’s making it: Peter Ocko is writer and showrunner, James Wan executive produces for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, and RoboCop co-creator Ed Neumeier is an executive producer
- UK availability: Coming to Prime Video; no filming or release dates set, UK date not yet confirmed
Paul Verhoeven’s original was a gleefully nasty corporate satire, and a lead who talks about the satire first is a promising sign. Stevens is having quite a year for menace, too: he is the Five Borough Killer in Dexter: Resurrection season 2.
Update: Star Trek’s John Cho joins Xochitl Gomez in road-trip horror Bad Influence

- What is new: John Cho has joined the young adult horror, which has now finished filming, Deadline reported. Ethan Suplee, Danny Jolles, Arnas Fedaravičius, Ana Ortiz, Jacob Vargas and Michelle Macedo also join
- The story: Xochitl Gomez and Madeleine McGraw play Isabelle and Kira, whose spring break trip turns deadly after they pick up a hitchhiker called Liam, played by Jack Champion
- Who’s making it: Jason Perlman directs from Brandon Cohen’s script, pitched as a horror riff on Thelma & Louise, with original songs by Six creators Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. Capture is handling sales
- UK availability: No release date yet; UK date not yet confirmed
We first reported the film when Gomez, McGraw and Champion were cast, in our casting round-up on 21 October. Adding Cho, Sulu in the Kelvin Star Trek films, gives it a familiar face for grown-ups, and songs from the Six team make this one of the odder horror pitches of the year.
Mindhunter’s Holt McCallany hunts a ritual killer in Paradise Disturbed

- What happened: Stoic is launching world sales on the completed thriller ahead of the American Film Market, and Deadline has published a first-look image
- The story: McCallany plays Ron Lee, a retired legendary investigator pulled back into the dark world he left when a series of ritualistic murders target him, leading to a cat-and-mouse game with a sadistic killer planning a “final masterpiece”
- Who’s making it: James Khanlarian (The Ghost Trap) directs, from the novel by James Robert Fuller. Zak Steiner, Lily Donoghue and Xander Berkeley co-star. Writer-producer Peter A. Couture II said of his star: “he became Ron Lee”
- UK availability: No distributor or release date yet; UK date not yet confirmed
Bill Tench’s weary decency was the heart of Mindhunter, and fans still waiting on a third season will be glad to see McCallany back in the serial killer business. A finished film heading to market means it shouldn’t be too long before it finds a home.
My Adventures with Green Lantern will run for 10 half-hour episodes

- What happened: DC Studios co-head Peter Safran has confirmed that the first season of the animated series will have 10 half-hour episodes, and that the team is reviewing animatics and animation now, Collider and Polygon reported
- The story: The spin-off from My Adventures with Superman follows Jessica Cruz, voiced by Auli’i Cravalho, as she balances being a new hero with life at Hal Jordan Memorial High. Safran says it will be “tonally similar” to the Superman show
- And Superman?: Safran said the future of My Adventures with Superman is “up in the air right now”, with no fourth season announced
- UK availability: UK date not yet confirmed
Jessica Cruz is a smart choice to lead: a newer Lantern who hasn’t been worn smooth by decades of continuity. The uncertainty over its parent show is the worry, as My Adventures with Superman has been one of DC’s most loved animated series.
US cinema chains Regal and Cinemark turn down Netflix’s Cliff Booth in IMAX
- What happened: Regal and Cinemark have declined to play David Fincher’s The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, starring Brad Pitt, on their IMAX screens, Variety reported. It will still play on AMC’s IMAX screens for two weeks from 25 November
- Why: Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping opens on 20 November, and the chains would have had to give up IMAX screens for a film that streams a month later. Regal said shortened windows limit the chance for audiences to see films on the big screen
- The scale: With AMC and independent cinemas abroad, Cliff Booth will still play on more than 500 screens worldwide
- UK availability: In selected UK IMAX cinemas from Wednesday 25 November, then on Netflix from Wednesday 23 December
As we found in our Exclusive on Netflix’s nine UK cinema releases, Cliff Booth already gets the longest cinema run of any Netflix film this winter. The American stand-off shows how much the chains want to protect those premium screens.
Kenneth Branagh will voice the title creature in A24’s comedy Goblin
- What happened: Kenneth Branagh has been cast as the voice of the goblin in David Mikalson’s raunchy comedy for A24, and Chase Sui Wonders (I Know What You Did Last Summer) is in talks to star, The Hollywood Reporter reported
- Who else: Skyler Gisondo (Superman) is reportedly playing the goblin’s human best friend, with Will Forte also in the cast
- The pitch: Described as “Ted meets E.T.”, the film began as a micro-budget project Mikalson was directing in Kentucky with a practical puppet, before A24 acquired it and agreed to a bigger budget, Deadline reported
- UK availability: No release date yet; UK date not yet confirmed
Branagh going from Shakespeare and Poirot to a foul-mouthed puppet is the kind of left turn A24 loves. It isn’t billed as horror, but a goblin on Halloween felt right.
Movieversalfilm Takeaway
