What to Watch Tonight UK · Saturday 31 October 2026
It is Halloween, and Film4 has the scariest film on TV tonight: Talk to Me at 10pm. Before that, there is a pitch-black British horror comedy on Prime Video whose climax was filmed on a real Halloween night in Cardiff, and a Star Trek classic that shows Patrick Stewart at his very best.

Tonight’s three picks
ON TV TONIGHT: Talk to Me (2022) on Film4 at 10pm
- Channel: Film4 at 10pm, until 11.50pm
- Runtime: 1 hour 34 minutes
- Age rating: 15
- Directed by: Danny and Michael Philippou
- Starring: Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird and Miranda Otto
- UK availability: On Film4 tonight. Also to rent or buy on the main digital stores
Mia is still grieving for her mother when her friends show her a party game: hold an embalmed hand, say “talk to me”, and something from the other side answers. It is a thrill, until somebody holds on too long. The Australian twins Danny and Michael Philippou made their name on YouTube, and their first film is fast, nasty and genuinely upsetting, with Sophie Wilde superb as Mia. On Halloween night, it is the one to watch with the lights off.
Perfect if you liked Hereditary, It Follows or the Philippous’ Bring Her Back. Stay up and Film4 follows it with Barbarian at 11.50pm, and our definitive guide to Halloween horror has plenty more.
HIDDEN GEM: Prevenge (2016) on Prime Video
- Service: Prime Video, included with a subscription
- Runtime: 1 hour 27 minutes
- Age rating: 15
- Written and directed by: Alice Lowe, who also stars
- Starring: Alice Lowe, Kate Dickie, Gemma Whelan, Jo Hartley and Kayvan Novak
- UK availability: Streaming on Prime Video. Also to rent or buy on the main digital stores
Ruth is seven months pregnant, recently widowed, and convinced that her unborn baby is telling her who to kill. Alice Lowe, co-writer and star of Sightseers, wrote, directed and starred in it while she was pregnant herself, and shot it in under two weeks. It is savage, sad and very funny. The climax takes place at a Halloween party, filmed on the real night among Cardiff’s costumed crowds, which makes it a perfect choice for tonight.
Perfect if you liked Sightseers, Saint Maud or Kill Bill. If you want another British-made chiller, try last night’s hidden gem, Host.
STAR TREK CLASSIC: Star Trek: The Next Generation — “The Best of Both Worlds” (1990) on Paramount+
- Service: Paramount+
- Episodes: Parts one and two, the season three finale and the season four opener
- Runtime: About 45 minutes each
- Age rating: 12
- Written by: Michael Piller
- Directed by: Cliff Bole
- Starring: Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner and Elizabeth Dennehy
- UK availability: Streaming on Paramount+
The Borg are coming for Earth, and this time they want Captain Picard. When they take him and turn him into Locutus, Riker has to fight the man who taught him everything. It is the closest Star Trek has come to body horror, and the part one cliffhanger kept fans waiting all summer in 1990. Patrick Stewart is chilling as Locutus, and it is a fitting way to remember him this week. Watch both parts back to back.
Perfect if you liked Alien, Star Trek: First Contact or Star Trek: Picard. Read our tribute to Sir Patrick Stewart and the news of his final screen role, see our last Star Trek pick, “Catspaw”, and find your next episode in our Star Trek watch guide.
Movieversalfilm Takeaway
Start the evening with Picard and the Borg on Paramount+, then Prevenge on Prime Video. At 10pm, switch to Film4 for Talk to Me, and do not hold that hand for longer than 90 seconds. Happy Halloween.
