US/UK Weekend Box Office: The 3pm Monday Report

Two enormous holdovers continued to tower over the North American market, leaving the weekend’s new comedies and horror releases to fight for the remaining oxygen. Spider-Man: Brand New Day held first place with an estimated $145 million, while The Odyssey added $31.5 million in its fourth weekend.

The story behind the numbers

Spider-Man’s second weekend remains an event

A 59.7% decline from a record-sized opening still left Brand New Day with a second weekend larger than almost any ordinary blockbuster debut. Its estimated domestic total reached roughly $655.1 million by Sunday, with a worldwide total of $1.67 billion after ten days. The scale of that lead matters: the number-one film earned more than four times the combined estimated weekend gross of the next nine entries in the chart.

The Odyssey reaches another milestone

Christopher Nolan’s epic showed much steadier weekend retention, adding $31.5 million in North America. The film had crossed $1 billion worldwide, reaching about $1.1 billion and becoming Nolan’s biggest global box-office result before inflation adjustment.

New wide releases find a narrow lane

One Night Only opened in third with $5.7 million, while Super Troopers 3 followed with $4 million. Ice Cream Man entered eighth on $2 million. Those results underline how difficult counterprogramming can be when two established spectacles retain the market’s attention, even on a weekend with several clearly differentiated alternatives.

Limited releases deliver the sharper averages

Outside the top ten, A24’s Tony earned $348,955 from six cinemas, an average of roughly $58,159 per location. MUBI’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma took $251,500 from five cinemas, averaging $50,300. Those concentrated starts do not predict a wide-release ceiling, but they do show meaningful demand in carefully selected venues.
