Amazon MGM Studios has released a First Look featurette for I Play Rocky, Peter Farrelly’s true story of how an unknown Sylvester Stallone fought to star in his own script. The film is in UK and Irish cinemas now through Entertainment Film, rated 12A, and in select US cinemas, going everywhere in the US on Friday 20 November 2026.
Behind the Scenes of the Ultimate Underdog Story
The two-minute featurette takes a closer look at the making of the film, with Anthony Ippolito as Stallone, a young actor told “no” at every turn who bets everything on playing Rocky Balboa himself. AnnaSophia Robb, Toby Kebbell, P.J. Byrne, Jay Duplass and Kiki Seto co-star, with Matt Dillon, Stephan James and Tracy Letts.
Farrelly directs from Peter Gamble’s screenplay. The release lines up with the original Rocky’s 50th anniversary, and Amazon MGM has also shared new clips, including one featuring Tracy Letts.
