NEWLY ADDED: Lee Chang-dong’s Possible Love (2026) lands on Netflix

  • Service: Netflix, out today
  • Runtime: 2 hours 44 minutes
  • Age rating: 15
  • Written and directed by: Lee Chang-dong

  • Critics: 100% on Rotten Tomatoes from 80 reviews; Metacritic 95; Venice Grand Jury Prize

Two couples collide while making a documentary about laid-off workers, and a quiet film about class, desire and performance turns into something enormous. Lee’s first feature since Burning is long, precise and devastating, with Jeon Do-yeon giving one of the year’s best performances. Clear Friday night if you can: it asks for attention, and it rewards it.

Perfect if you liked Burning, Parasite or Decision to Leave. Read our Possible Love Super Review, and it was flagged in our Weekly Streaming Highlights.

NEW EPISODES TODAY: Keeley Hawes returns in The Assassin series 2, Prime Video

  • Service: Prime Video
  • Episodes: All six episodes, out today from 8am
  • Age rating: 15
  • Created by: Harry and Jack Williams
  • Starring: Keeley Hawes, Freddie Highmore and Shalom Brune-Franklin
  • UK availability: Streaming on Prime Video in the UK from today, Friday 6 November

Retired hitwoman Julie thought she was done. Then her son Edward’s honeymoon is hijacked and his new wife is taken hostage, so mum is back on the job with the same dry wit and sharper stakes. Series one was a dark comedy about family and unfinished business; early word on series two says it goes grittier without losing the jokes. Dropping the lot at once makes it a proper Friday binge.

Perfect if you liked Killing Eve, Black Doves or Barry. Catch the week’s wider streaming list in our Weekly Streaming Highlights.

NEW EPISODES TODAY: Return to Paradise series 3 opens on BBC One

  • Channel: BBC One at 7.30pm and 8.30pm (two episodes), then on BBC iPlayer
  • Episodes: Series 3, episodes 1 and 2
  • Age rating: 12
  • Starring: Anna Samson and Lloyd Griffith
  • UK availability: BBC One tonight and free on BBC iPlayer from tonight

The Australian Death in Paradise spin-off is back without pathologist Glenn, so DS Mackenzie Clarke and Colin Cartwright have to crack cases that include an artist murdered mid-performance and a director shot at her own screening. It is sunny, twisty Friday crime with a lighter touch than the rest of tonight’s list, and both opening episodes air back to back.

Perfect if you liked Death in Paradise, Beyond Paradise or The Marlow Murder Club.

ON TV TONIGHT: Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained (2012) on Film4 at 9pm

  • Channel: Film4 at 9pm
  • Runtime: 2 hours 45 minutes
  • Age rating: 18
  • Written and directed by: Quentin Tarantino
  • Starring: Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kerry Washington
  • Critics: 87% on Rotten Tomatoes; Waltz won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor
  • UK availability: On Film4 tonight. Also on Sky / NOW and to rent or buy on the main digital stores

A freed slave and a German bounty hunter ride into the Deep South to free Django’s wife from a plantation run by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Calvin Candie. It is long, violent and very Tarantino, with Waltz stealing every scene he is in. Not subtle Friday-night viewing, but it is the biggest film on terrestrial tonight and it still hits hard.

Perfect if you liked Inglourious Basterds, The Hateful Eight or Bone Tomahawk.

HIDDEN GEM: Karyn Kusama’s dinner-party horror The Invitation (2015), Prime Video

  • Service: Prime Video
  • Runtime: 1 hour 40 minutes
  • Age rating: 15
  • Directed by: Karyn Kusama
  • Starring: Logan Marshall-Green, Emayatzy Corinealdi and Michiel Huisman
  • Critics: 90% on Rotten Tomatoes
  • UK availability: Streaming on Prime Video in the UK

A man accepts a dinner invitation from his ex-wife and her new husband in the Hollywood Hills, and the evening turns from awkward to terrifying with almost no jump scares. Kusama lets dread build through wine, small talk and a cult that may or may not be in the room. It is the perfect Friday horror if you want tension rather than gore, and most people still have not seen it.

Perfect if you liked Ready or Not, Coherence or Get Out.

DOCTOR WHO CLASSIC: the animated restoration of The Savages (1966) on BBC iPlayer

  • Service: BBC iPlayer, free
  • Episodes: Four animated episodes, First Doctor
  • Age rating: PG
  • Starring: William Hartnell, Peter Purves and Jackie Lane
  • UK availability: Streaming free on BBC iPlayer

Friday is for sci-fi, and this is a lost Hartnell story brought back with new animation over the original 1966 soundtrack. The Doctor, Steven and Dodo land on a planet of Elders who stay young by draining the life from the Savages. It is a sharp little parable about power and exploitation, and the animated restoration only arrived on iPlayer in early October, so it still feels fresh.

Perfect if you liked The Daleks, classic Star Trek or any of the other recovered Who animations. Find your next story in our Doctor Who watch guide.

Movieversalfilm Takeaway

Make Possible Love your main event on Netflix if you want the film of the year so far, or binge Keeley Hawes in The Assassin series 2 on Prime. Film4 has Django Unchained at 9pm, and The Invitation is a sharp Friday horror gem if you want something shorter and nastier.
