Trailer Drop · Official Trailer · 5 November 2026
“Beneath every family tree, secrets take root.” Netflix has released the official trailer for Unaccustomed Earth, a new drama series inspired by Jhumpa Lahiri’s much-loved short story collection and starring Freida Pinto. It premieres on Netflix worldwide, including the UK, on Thursday 17 December 2026.
A Homecoming That Reopens Old Wounds
Pinto plays a wife and mother who gave up her first love to honour her father’s wishes. When she receives a life-changing cancer diagnosis, she moves her family from India back to the one place she ever truly felt at home: Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Netflix’s own synopsis says the return forces her to confront buried desires that upend her Indian American community. Siddharth, Sarayu Blue, Indraneil Sengupta, Adi Roy and Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig co-star.
Lahiri’s 2008 collection, which followed her Pulitzer Prize-winning Interpreter of Maladies, is known for its quiet, piercing stories of Bengali American families across generations. This adaptation arrives just before Christmas, in the same busy Netflix run as The Blue Road.
