Trailer Drop · Official Fan Edit Trailer · 27 October 2026
Lionsgate has handed the trailer to the fans. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has an Official Fan Edit Trailer, cut by fan editor Areq and released on Lionsgate’s own channel, with Joseph Zada as the young Haymitch Abernathy. Francis Lawrence’s prequel opens in UK cinemas and IMAX on Friday 20 November 2026.
The 50th Hunger Games
Set 24 years before the original film, Sunrise on the Reaping adapts Suzanne Collins’s bestselling novel about the Second Quarter Quell, the 50th Hunger Games, when twice as many tributes are reaped from each district. Haymitch, the future mentor of Katniss Everdeen, is among them.
The fan edit runs just under a minute and a half, stitching footage from the official campaign into a new cut with its own rhythm. It is an unusual move for a major studio, and a nod to the fan editors who have kept the franchise alive online between films. Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Kieran Culkin and Maya Hawke are among the cast.
We last looked at the film’s UK date alongside Francis Lawrence’s next project in our Horror and Sci-Fi Brief. For tonight’s other big trailer, see the Dune: Part Three final trailer.
