Trailer Drop · Official UK Trailer · 31 October 2026
A barrister who has built her career defending men accused of sexual assault finds herself on the other side of the courtroom. Sony Pictures UK is sharing the official trailer for Prima Facie, with Cynthia Erivo taking on the role from Suzie Miller’s award-winning stage play. It opens only in UK and Irish cinemas on Friday 13 November.
From Stage to Screen
Erivo plays Tessa Ensler, a brilliant young defence barrister who rules London’s courtrooms. When she is assaulted by a colleague, the legal system she has always trusted turns against her, and she faces the same tactics she once used in court. Sony’s audience advice says the film contains themes and scenes of sexual assault.
Suzie Miller adapts her own 2019 play, which won Jodie Comer an Olivier Award and a Tony Award for the one-woman stage version. Susanna White (Andor) directs, and the cast includes Daniel Ings, Toheeb Jimoh, Noma Dumezweni, Simon Russell Beale and Harry Treadaway. Erivo is also an executive producer. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and also screened at the BFI London Film Festival.
