The Rings of Power Season 3 Leads This Week’s Trailer Radar

Weekly Trailer Radar · Tuesday 27 October 2026 · Official trailers released 20–27 October

Middle-earth goes to war, Steve Rogers picks up Mjolnir again and a young Sylvester Stallone refuses to take no for an answer. This week’s Trailer Radar is led by the season 3 trailer for The Rings of Power, with Marvel’s new Avengers: Doomsday spot, the second trailer for I Play Rocky, Channel 4’s Hunting Alice Bell and Idris Elba’s Above the Below. Here are the five official trailers that mattered most between Tuesday 20 and Tuesday 27 October, following last week’s Trailer Radar. Warner Bros. has also promised the final trailer for Dune: Part Three this week, and we will weigh it up next Tuesday.

Viewer Match

  • Best for: Tolkien fans who have waited two seasons for the moment the One Ring is made.
  • Maybe skip if: The slow political build-up of the first two seasons lost you; this still looks like an ensemble war story rather than a quick quest.
  • Trailer mood: Dark, heavy and martial, with the forge fires and armies doing most of the talking.
  • Why it stands out: Prime Video promises, for the first time on screen, the forging of the One Ring, with Sauron finally in his armoured form.

Our Evening News of 21 October ran through the dragons, the Balrog and the Ringwraiths. Watched again a week later, the more telling thing is what Prime Video chose to put at the centre. Its official synopsis is built around three images that every Tolkien reader knows: Sauron in his “legendary armored form”, Gandalf emerging “as the iconic wizard of lore” and Galadriel on her way to becoming the Lady of Lothlórien. Above all, the trailer points to the forging of the One Ring. After two seasons spent largely on politics and set-up, this is the series moving towards the mythology it was always heading for. The audience seems ready: the main Prime Video upload passed 14 million views in under a week. Simon Pegg, who voices the Balrog, has a second dark turn coming in November, in Hunting Alice Bell further down this list.

Movieversalfilm radar note: It is the most confident trailer the show has released, because it finally sells the endgame rather than the journey.

Avengers: Doomsday — “Stand Together” Spot

Official Avengers: Doomsday key art: Doctor Doom in a long green hooded cloak climbs stone steps towards a vast tapestry, flanked by two glowing torches

  • Official trailer/channel: Marvel Entertainment (uploaded Sunday 25 October 2026)
  • Format: Superhero film; 30-second spot
  • Release: In US cinemas from Friday 18 December 2026
  • Directors: Anthony Russo and Joe Russo
  • Principal cast: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Wyatt Russell and Pedro Pascal
  • Where to watch in the UK: In UK cinemas from Wednesday 16 December 2026 (Disney); tickets on sale now

Viewer Match

  • Best for: Marvel fans who want reassurance that the old guard and the new teams will share the screen.
  • Maybe skip if: You are tired of 30-second spots and would rather wait for a full trailer.
  • Trailer mood: Brisk, rousing and a little cheeky: a call to arms that ends on a joke.
  • Why it stands out: It is Marvel’s own cut of the new footage, and it reframes the film as three teams standing as one.

Our World Series Trailer Drop covered the longer preview built around Reed Richards at Ebbets Field. Marvel’s own 30-second cut, titled simply “Stand together” on its channel, does a different job. It drops the baseball and keeps the message: Chris Hemsworth’s Thor warns that Doom will tear this world apart, title cards promise that three teams will stand as one, and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is back with Mjolnir in his hand. The tone turns at the end with a gag about just how many Captain Americas are now in the room, a reminder that the Russos still like to undercut the grandeur. It drew more than 14 million views in two days, and it arrives in the same week as the news of Sandra Hüller’s secret cameo. One correction to note for UK readers: Disney UK lists the film for Wednesday 16 December, two days ahead of the US.

Movieversalfilm radar note: Short as it is, this spot answers the biggest question about Doomsday: the film will lean on team-up joy as much as on Doom’s menace.

I Play Rocky — Official Trailer 2

Official I Play Rocky poster: a young Sylvester Stallone, played by Anthony Ippolito, walks down the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps inside a giant arms-raised Rocky silhouette
Image: Amazon MGM Studios
  • Official trailer/channel: Amazon MGM Studios (uploaded Thursday 22 October 2026)
  • Format: Biographical drama film
  • Release: In select US cinemas from 6 November, everywhere from 20 November 2026
  • Director: Peter Farrelly, from a script by Peter Gamble
  • Principal cast: Anthony Ippolito, AnnaSophia Robb, Toby Kebbell, Matt Dillon, Stephan James and Tracy Letts
  • Where to watch in the UK: In UK and Irish cinemas from Friday 6 November 2026 (Entertainment Film Distributors)

Viewer Match

  • Best for: Anyone who loves Rocky, and anyone who loves a story about an outsider refusing to sell out.
  • Maybe skip if: Films about the making of films leave you cold.
  • Trailer mood: Warm, scrappy and stubborn, built on a series of closed doors.
  • Why it stands out: It tells the true story of how Sylvester Stallone held out to play the role he had written for himself.

When we ran our I Play Rocky Trailer Drop on 23 October, the exact UK date was still unconfirmed. It is now set: Entertainment Film Distributors opens the film in UK and Irish cinemas on Friday 6 November, the same day that a 50th anniversary 4K restoration of Rocky is listed for release, so audiences can see the myth and the making of it side by side. The second trailer is built on rejection. Everyone wants Stallone’s script and nobody wants Stallone, and Anthony Ippolito plays him as charming, broke and immovable. Peter Farrelly, who won the Best Picture Oscar for Green Book, keeps it light on its feet, and the film has already had a Hollywood premiere at AFI Fest, as our Evening News of 25 October reported.

Movieversalfilm radar note: It is the most crowd-pleasing trailer of the week, and with a UK date only ten days away, the most immediately useful one.

Hunting Alice Bell — Official Trailer

  • Official trailer/channel: Channel 4 (uploaded Wednesday 21 October 2026)
  • Format: Six-part psychological thriller series
  • Release: Coming to Channel 4 in November 2026
  • Creators: David Baddiel and Peter Bradshaw; directed by Paul Walker
  • Principal cast: Alexandra Roach, Simon Pegg, Amanda Abbington, Ralf Little and Rudi Dharmalingam
  • Where to watch in the UK: Channel 4 and Channel 4 streaming in November 2026; exact UK date not yet confirmed

Viewer Match

  • Best for: Fans of British thrillers with a modern sting, and anyone uneasy about how fast rumours spread online.
  • Maybe skip if: Stories about online pile-ons hit too close to home.
  • Trailer mood: Tense, suspicious and claustrophobic, with every woman a possible suspect.
  • Why it stands out: A comedian and a film critic have created it, and Simon Pegg plays the killer at its centre.

Channel 4’s trailer is short, at 77 seconds, and it is the most British trailer on this week’s list. The idea is simple and nasty. Alice Bell, the former nurse and accomplice of a notorious serial killer, is said to be living under a new identity. When a group of women are each accused online of being her, they have to band together to clear their names, without knowing whether one of them is lying. We first reported the trailer in our Evening News of 21 October. Seen again, the real hook is that the vigilantes are just as frightening as the killer. David Baddiel has said the idea came from real cases of women wrongly targeted as notorious figures, which gives the trailer an edge beyond the whodunnit.

Movieversalfilm radar note: This is the sleeper of the week: a small trailer with a strong idea and a cast that knows how to play paranoia.

Above the Below — Official Trailer

AI artwork of a scorched space capsule sinking through the dark ocean, its porthole glowing and a frayed parachute trailing above it as air bubbles rise towards the surface
AI Artwork
  • Official trailer/channel: Lionsgate Movies (uploaded Tuesday 20 October 2026)
  • Format: Sci-fi survival thriller film
  • Release: In US cinemas from Friday 4 December 2026 (Lionsgate)
  • Directors: Idris Elba and Martin Owen
  • Principal cast: Idris Elba, Caitlin FitzGerald and Hero Fiennes Tiffin
  • Where to watch in the UK: UK date not yet confirmed

Viewer Match

  • Best for: Viewers who like lean, high-pressure survival thrillers set in one confined space.
  • Maybe skip if: Claustrophobia and slowly falling oxygen levels are your idea of a bad night.
  • Trailer mood: Taut and suffocating, swapping the vastness of space for the crushing pressure of the deep.
  • Why it stands out: Idris Elba directs a feature for the first time since Yardie, and stars as one of three trapped astronauts.

Our Above the Below Trailer Drop set out the premise: three astronauts survive a disaster in space, only for their capsule to crash-land in the ocean and start to sink, with no contact with mission control and their air running out. Set beside this week’s blockbusters, its appeal is how contained it is. There are no armies or multiverses, just three people and a shrinking pocket of air. It is a British production, shot on the underwater stage at Pinewood Studios, which makes the lack of a UK release date all the more surprising. Lionsgate has the film in US cinemas from 4 December.

Movieversalfilm radar note: The simplest pitch of the week, and possibly the most effective: once you have seen the capsule go under, you want to know how they get out.

Movieversalfilm Trailer of the Week

The Rings of Power season 3 takes the verdict. Avengers: Doomsday had the bigger buzz, but a 30-second spot cannot compete with a full trailer that changes how a series is seen. Prime Video’s trailer stops promising a journey and starts promising the payoff: an armoured Sauron, a Gandalf who looks like Gandalf and, at last, the forging of the One Ring. Whether the scripts can match it is a question for 11 November, but as a piece of marketing it is the most complete trailer of the week.

Which of this week’s five trailers has earned the first place on your watchlist: The Rings of Power, Avengers: Doomsday, I Play Rocky, Hunting Alice Bell or Above the Below? Tell us below.
